networking – vmware workstation – cannot change network to bridged – Super User

 

After a large Windows 10 feature update — I believe — I noticed that my Linux VMs were booting up without any networking. I had not changed any of the Workstation network configuration since I had installed it and always just used the defaults.

Clearly, Workstation thinks the adapters are already bridged despite there not being any listed in the virtual network editor. A thread over at the VMware Communities forum from back in offered a very simple suggestion — restore defaults. It appears to go through a complete removal of all virtual networking components, including host virtual adapters and services and then re-deploys them from scratch. In my case I only used the defaults so this was perfect.

Once the process was completed, I was happy to see VMnet0 back in the list with the correct bridging configuration. Since I have a VPN adapter and a disabled wireless adapter in my system it seemed to be trying to use the wrong one.

When I did this, it did not restore VMnet0. I had to add it and then select bridging, which worked now after resetting the network connections. That was bugging me. Taking a look at their network connections, I found that I’d lost the default vmnet0 network, and trying по этой ссылке add it back as a bridged network threw the error “There are no un-bridged host network adapters”. Looking online, there were reports of Anti-Virus conflicts and some network cards not being supported, but I was pretty confident that neither of these were the issue since the bridged connection worked fine in Worlstation 8.

Aeapters found that restoring the default within the Virtual Network Editor resolved this issue. The process takes about 30 seconds to complete, and you can see it resetting all of your VMWare network settings.
