To get started, we’ll walk through installing a basic Windows 10 IoT Enterprise image onto a device.

You can now begin to create the packages and build the FFU image for the Baytrail x64 device. Go back to the IoTCoreShell. Please note that if you had selected x86 when you ran the IoTCoreShell. You are now ready to build the actual FFU flashable image file. The second parameter specifies whether you are building a Test or Retail image. This process takes about minutes to complete and once finished you will have a file named flash.

If you encounter any errors, the buildimage process will error out and specify a log file that has detailed information on the error. Now that you have a flashable FFU image file, you will need to flash it onto the IoT device you are working with.

For our example, this is the Baytrail device and since it has onboard storage space we need to use a bootable USB thumbdrive with the FFU file on it. In order to create this, we will use Windows PE to create a bootable disk and then copy the flash. WinPE will boot up and open a command window for you at the x: drive. Change to the d: drive and enter dir to see your flash. Enter the following in the command line to flash the FFU file: dism. Windows will automatically activate when connected to the Internet.

Click Select and choose the ISO file you just downloaded. Click OK. This will erase your flash drive and turn it into an IoT installer. Wait for Rufus to complete. Safely eject the flash drive and unplug it from the PC.

Connect your newly created flash drive to the OnLogic PC and boot to it. Under the Boot tab, make it the first boot device. Exact boot instructions vary by model. If you need assistance, contact support onlogic. When the flash drive boots, you will be presented with this screen. Select Next. Click Install now. Once you have everything, you can move on to the next section. This section covers how to create bootable USB Windows installation media, and then install it onto a device so it’s ready to be customized.

When you’ve identified the disk number of your USB drive, use diskpart to prepare the drive so you can use it as a bootable installation drive:. You can use File explorer to manually copy the files. We recommend not having your device connected to any network during Windows Setup. Network connectivity could cause it to come out of the deferred activation state.

Windows is installed on your reference device and you have a basic image that’s ready to be customized.
