I went through the lessons and they have you take little pieces of code and change them but it was impossible for me to get the whole picture of how the darn thing works.
I ended up buying Dreamweaver CC for Dummies which was a little more helpful and got some problems solved for me. Dreamweaver is typical Adobe product and hard to learn.
Powerful as heck, I’m sure The book doesn’t provide the help that tells you what each of the pieces mean and the index is worthless for helping troubleshoot an issue with a page because they go through the lessons in a very odd way.
I’m taking a college course using Dreamweaver right now for my Masters and the assignments are coming too fast and furious to go at the snails pace this book makes you go. As another reviewer said, I really really hated this book.
I tried to learn from it and was continually slowed and then lost in the overly-complex CSS tutorials. The book throws tons of detail at you but never covers the “why. I bought the Missing Manual book instead and that works much better. Better still, I bought the CSS Missing Manual and that provided the best possible overview of the structure of the internet and its display mechanisms in I’ve waited for this book for 6 months and I am not disappointed.
I’m a bit less than halfway through and find it concise and not overly cumbersome. You must be patient and after initially working with the sample files, I am building my own sites with the tips used for the new DW CC Those features important to me I make note of to use as a reference in the future. It’s not overwhelming pages and simply testing each area, such as CSS, or bootstrap, I learn. This does a great job in applying those areas to DW.
Given that this text comes from Adobe Press, you would think that the quality level would be high, but in this instance, it’s the exact opposite. Lots of errors in the code trip you up throughout the text. No coverage of forms is also a let down. You might want to check out the Against the Clock series, but their Dreamweaver text is no picnic, either. Publishers have abandoned the Adobe suite because Adobe puts out new versions faster than authors and publishers can get them out the door.
